Articles 1.04 and 1.05 are the Texas Code's own bill of rights. Brian Foley explains the due course of law guarantee in Art. 1.04 — no citizen may be deprived of life, liberty, or property except by due course of the law of the land — and the specific rights listed in Art. 1.05: a speedy public trial by an impartial jury, the right to know the accusation, to confront witnesses, to compulsory process, to counsel, and the right not to be compelled to give evidence against yourself.
